Welcome to my portfolio!
I’m a San Francisco Bay Area-based reporter, writer, editor and multimedia producer. I specialize in telling stories through words, sounds, images and video—or any combination thereof—while maximizing the unique storytelling power of each medium. My work has appeared in the Atlantic online, New York Times, Boston Globe, Bay Citizen, Sacramento Bee, and Parenting and Yoga Journal magazines, among other publications. My ongoing clients include TED Books, KQED radio and the Center for Investigative Reporting.
My greatest expertise lies in health, mental health and immigration, though I’m also interested in energy, environment, business, government, social trends—just about everything. My previous experience studying biology and neuroscience and working in psychiatry research gives me facility with a range of science topics, as well. I speak fluent Spanish, can’t resist a good salsa beat and have lived in Mexico and reported stories across languages.
I bring to my work a combination of dogged persistence and a human touch—both essential for digging up information, connecting with sources and telling the story in the most powerful way.
On these pages you’ll find everything you need for a brief introduction to me and my work. You can also follow me on Twitter at @GraceRubie. Enjoy! And don’t hesitate to get in touch.
